About Our Services
Lactation Consultant
Breastfeeding is a valuable, health promoting activity which has short- and long-term health impacts for mothers and babies. Despite the perception of being natural, breastfeeding does not always go to plan and requires support, time and practice for success. Evidence suggests that support is the most important aspect of a successful breastfeeding journey.
I provide early support and education for antenatal mums wanting to know more about:
I conduct a breast examination to look for potential issues that may impact your breastfeeding journey and need to be addressed. I can also provide advice about breastfeeding products. Appointments can be done in your home, face-to-face, or via telehealth.
I provide early postnatal support when you arrive home from the hospital. I will check that attachment and latch are correct, refine any technique issues and develop a feeding plan personalised to your baby's needs and your supply. I will also examine your baby to ensure that they are well hydrated, have a normal output and look for any neonatal jaundice that may need to be managed.
If breastfeeding does not go completely to plan such as tender, damaged or flat nipples, decreased milk supply, oversupply, blocked milk ducts or mastitis; I can help you manage these issues and develop a management plan. I will continue to check in with you by phone after the appointment to ensure that the plan is effective, and that the situation is improving. In some more challenging situations, another consult may be necessary to provide a stepped approach.
I provide support for mums returning to work and wishing to express breastmilk and bottle feed, mix feed or when weaning from the breast. When breastfeeding has either been unsuccessful, is not the personal choice of feeding method or mixed feeding is used, I am experienced with formula feeding. I can provide advice on optimal equipment and product choices, techniques and infant routines around formula feeding.

Having a new baby is an exciting time, but also a tiring one. Newborn infants feed on average 6-8 times (up to 10) in each 24 hour period, depending on their size and birthweight, including during the night-time. This disrupted sleep can be challenging to manage and it is best if you can rest whenever your baby is sleeping.
I offer night nursing services which help give you a break, especially when settling is also eating into your valuable sleep time. Nights are generally 10 hours, between 8pm and 6am (times may be negotiable) to allow some discussion and guidance before bed. You will generally advise me what you want to achieve and orientate me to your babies area and general patterns.
If you are breastfeeding, I will wake you for feeds, assist you with the feed and help with any techniques that may speed up the feed, then settle the baby for you while you get back to bed. Some mums choose to express a breastmilk feed so that I can feed the baby without having to wake the mother, allowing them to get a longer stretch of sleep. We can discuss this if it interests you.
If formula feeding, you can take the night to sleep and I will provide all baby cares overnight.
I love to provide education and reassurance during these visits. If you pre-prepare a list of questions for me, I am always happy to answer.
Babies around the 4-6 month mark have a rapid developmental growth period which can sometimes impact on their sleep patterns. Babies who have slept well overnight may start to wake again, sometimes called 'sleep regression'. This can challenge many parents who have resettled into nighttime sleeping. I provide support for parents during this period to help babies rediscover their sleep associations and patterns. Normally this is a 3 night sleep program, but may require ongoing maintenance on your part.

The Brit Milah is one of the most important Jewish ceremonies and is steeped in tradition, however that 8th day comes around very quickly, your baby seems so defenceless and there are a lot of emotions attached. It helps to have a professional to support you before, during and after the ceremony. Some Mohelim provide a nurse, but others do not.
I am familiar with the rituals and can provide support as you prepare your baby for the event and for the important after procedure care. I will monitor and change any dressings required, watch for the important passing of urine and teach you how to provide the aftercare yourself. I will also assist you with feeds and ensure that the baby is settled and comfortable before I leave. Most babies cope with the Bris very well and complications are rare, however professional support reassures you that all is well and allows you to enjoy the day fully with minimal worry.
I am also able to support non-religious circumcision procedures as required.
